ARTPLAY CENTER, Moscow. The Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Russia’s most prestigious contemporary art event, has finalized its selection of participants, now totaling 64 artis.
The title for the Biennale, Rewriting Worlds, proclaims that art is a sphere where new things are unceasingly generated, and contemporary artists rewrite the world as it exists around them by conveying new ideas and viewpoints in their artistic work.

The main project will be located at two venues — the ARTPLAY Design Center, and the TSUM Art Foundation, both in central Moscow.

THE FLY is an interactive art installation that studies the movement of objects and insects within a confined space.  An abstract representation of a fly is held captive inside a glass box, centrally ensnared by eight cables. The behaviour of this „fly“ is controlled by a unique and autonomous algorithm, accurately simultating the observed behaviour of real flies.

rAndom International’s sustained interest and experimentation with natural and artificial behavioural processes, and the simulation of life itself, provides the impetus for this new work. THE FLY has been commissioned by Incubator has premiered at the 4th Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art, curated by Peter Weibel.

Incubator is an alternative platform that initiates and develops creativity. It was founded by Rachel Verghis, a collector and former banker and Natalie Kovacs, a curator. Inspired by their enthusiasm and ethic for new media work and its role within the art world, they established Incubator to offer a licence for experimentation to artists and ideas.
